Target and Relevance

Your Target is what you are looking for. SuperImpress reads it to decide which Postings go to your Inbox. A Posting is one job advertisement on a company’s hiring board. Every Verdict also reads your Target. A Verdict is a judgment of how well one Posting fits you.

Your Target is not your Career Record. The Target is the work that you want. The Career Record is the work that you did.

The Target screen has four parts:

  • Titles that could be you. These are title terms to include. A Posting with one of these terms in its title can go to your Inbox.
  • Titles that aren’t you. These are title terms to exclude. SuperImpress always leaves out a Posting with one of these terms in its title, even when an include term also matches.
  • Where. These are the places that you want. If you give no place, every place passes. Turn on Remote anywhere to also keep a remote Posting in a place that is not on your list.
  • Experience. This is your experience in years (0 to 60) and months (0 to 11). Relevance does not read it. A Verdict reads it to tell a strong fit from a stretch. A Verdict reads the seniority of a role from the Posting.

If your experience is less than one year, your resumes start with Education, then Projects, then Experience.

Under each list of title terms, the app shows suggested terms. Select a suggestion to add it.

Under “Titles that could be you”, the app first suggests one broad term for each common field, for example engineer or product manager. After you add a term from a field, the app suggests related terms that the broad term does not catch. For example, “engineer” does not catch “developer”, so the app suggests developer. Under “Titles that aren’t you”, the app suggests intern, staff, principal, director, and head of.

A broad term catches every title that contains it. The app tells you this under the list. If you get too many Postings, use more specific terms. You can also add the words that you do not want to “Titles that aren’t you”.

Relevance is a fixed test of a Posting’s title and place against your Target. SuperImpress uses no AI model for it. A Posting is Relevant when all three of these are true:

  1. Its title has none of your “Titles that aren’t you” terms.
  2. Its title has at least one of your “Titles that could be you” terms.
  3. Its place contains one of your places, you gave no place, or it is remote and Remote anywhere is on.

A term matches whole words, and capital letters do not matter. So “intern” does not match “Internal”. “Front end”, “front-end”, and “frontend” are the same term. A place matches in the same way, so “London” matches “London, UK”.

If you have no Target, or your Target has no “Titles that could be you” terms, no Posting is Relevant.

Beside the form, the “When you save” panel shows what a save will change. It shows how many more or fewer Postings will be Relevant on the Boards that you watch. It also shows how many of your Verdicts will go Stale. A Verdict goes Stale when something that it read changes after SuperImpress writes it.

If you watch no Boards yet, the panel says “You watch no Boards yet, so nothing changes until you do.”

To save your Target, select Save Target. SuperImpress then marks Relevance again on every open Posting on the Boards that you watch. Then the app opens the Boards screen.

A save does not use an AI model and spends no Credits. Autopilot is the SuperImpress feature that judges Postings for you. With Autopilot on, a save that changes your Target makes Autopilot wait 15 minutes. Then it judges the Relevant Postings, inside your Daily Credit Limit. Each new save starts the 15 minutes again. To start at once, ask your agent, if you have connected one. See After you edit. Your agent can judge the Postings before that. See What your agent can do.

To go back to the Target that you saved last, select Discard changes.

SuperImpress keeps a Posting that fails Relevance and marks it. It does not hide the Posting. To see these Postings, turn on Failed Relevance in your Inbox. The list shows only the Postings that you did not decide on yet.

Each row shows “Failed · title” or “Failed · location”, and the reason:

  • The title has one of your “not me” terms. The row names the term.
  • The title has no “could be me” term.
  • The place is not one of your places, and the Posting is not remote.

Each row has a Widen Target button. It opens your Target, so that you can change the term or the place that left the Posting out.
