Resumes
Every resume is a Selection from your Career Record. A Selection is the list of your bullets that a resume prints. It sets which bullets print, their order, and a headline. It can leave things out and put them in a different order. It cannot add a word that your Career Record does not have. This rule is the same for you, for Autopilot, and for your agent.
A resume belongs to an Application, or it belongs to a Kit. The Resumes screen lists every resume that you have, newest version first. It has three tabs: All, In a Kit, and For an application. Each row shows the newest version, who made it, and when.
Build a Selection by hand
Section titled “Build a Selection by hand”On an Application or in a Kit, “Build the Selection by hand” opens the Selection editor. After the first version, the button says “Adjust the Selection by hand”. The Selection editor is free on both Plans. It opens only when your Career Record has at least one role or project. Education or volunteering alone is not enough.
Above the editor, you see the advert that the resume answers. On a Posting from a Board, this is the Posting text. On a posting that you added yourself, this is the advert that you pasted. In a Kit, there is no advert, so the editor shows the Kit’s Angle.
Beside the editor, a live preview shows the one A4 page that your resume prints to. The editor has these parts:
- Bullets: every bullet in your Career Record, under its role, project, volunteering entry, or education. Tick a bullet to include it, and drag it to change its order. A bullet with no number in it shows “no number”. To change the words of a bullet, edit your Career Record.
- Headline: one line at the top of the resume. Name only skills that your Career Record has. If the headline names a skill that your Career Record does not have, you cannot save.
- Header links: the links on your Contact. Untick a link to leave it out, and drag the links to change their order.
- Languages: tick a language only when the Posting needs one. Drag the languages to change their order.
- Certifications and Publications: tick each one that you want to print.
Your education always prints. Its bullets print only when you tick them. Your Skills always print.
A resume is one page. If the Selection is longer than one page, the preview says “Spills” and the number of lines. Each bullet that falls off the page shows “Past the page”. You cannot save until the preview says “Fits”. To make it fit, untick a bullet. When it fits, click “Save as” to save the next version.
“Start from” fills the editor with the ticks of an earlier Selection of yours. The earlier Selection can be from a Kit or from an Application. It copies the ticks, never the words. If something in the earlier Selection is no longer in your Career Record, the editor leaves it out and tells you.
Autopilot and your agent
Section titled “Autopilot and your agent”Autopilot is the SuperImpress model that works for you on Pro. If you are on Pro, Autopilot is on, and you have a Career Record, Autopilot starts a resume when you pursue a Posting. Your Daily Credit Limit can make this resume wait for the next day. While Autopilot works, the Application says “Autopilot is choosing a Selection…”. Autopilot’s first version says “Generated on Pursue”.
To ask Autopilot for a version, click “Select with Autopilot”. After the first version, the button says “Regenerate with Autopilot”. On an Application, you find it in the “Change the resume” menu, with “Adjust the Selection by hand”. If the resume is Behind, “Regenerate with Autopilot” is on the card. For the price in Credits, see Plans.
Autopilot follows the same rules as you. If its Selection is longer than one page, or names something that your Career Record does not have, SuperImpress saves nothing. You spend no Credits, and the Application tells you why.
Autopilot prints a line about where you can work only if you turn it on in Settings.
“Ask your agent” leads to your agent. Your agent saves a Selection for free, on both Plans.
A resume in a Kit
Section titled “A resume in a Kit”A Kit holds a resume, a cover letter, and an outreach message for a company that hires without an advert. An Angle is one line that says the kind of role the Kit is for. A resume in a Kit works the same as a resume on an Application. The difference is that Autopilot uses the Angle in place of an advert and a Company Brief. Each version keeps the Angle that it was made from.
A Kit has no Application and no Stage, so nothing in a Kit appears on your Pipeline.
Versions and download
Section titled “Versions and download”SuperImpress never changes a resume in place. Each save makes a new version, and every version stays. Each version says “by you”, “by Autopilot”, or “by your agent”.
Every version gives you the same two actions, Download PDF and View as web page. You find them on the Application, on a Kit’s page, on each earlier version, and on every row of the Resumes screen.
“Download PDF” saves a one-page PDF. The file name has your name and what the resume is for, such as Asha-Rao-Stripe-Backend-Engineer.pdf. For a Kit, the file name has your name and the Kit’s name. A PDF costs no Credits. Downloading a PDF is on Pro. SuperImpress checks your Plan when you download, not when the resume was made.
On Free, the Download PDF button shows “Pro”, and it opens Upgrade to Pro. If you open a PDF link on Free, such as a link from your agent, a page says “Download PDF is on Pro”. It has an Upgrade to Pro link and a View as web page link. On Free, the Resumes screen also says “Every Board is now free. PDF downloads are on Pro.”
“View as web page” opens the same version in a new tab, on both Plans. On the Resumes screen, this action is called “Web page”. If you leave Pro, you can still read every resume as a web page. SuperImpress deletes nothing.
Behind
Section titled “Behind”A resume is Behind when your Career Record changed after its newest version was made. The Resumes screen and the Kits screen mark it “Behind”. A Kit’s page also says how many bullets you added or took out since that version.
A resume on an Application shows “Behind” only while the Application is at Pursuing. After you mark it Applied, the company already has the version that you sent, so a new version changes nothing, and SuperImpress stops marking it. A closed Application also does not show “Behind”. If you move the Application back to Pursuing, the mark comes back.
A Behind resume is still honest, because every line on it is still in your Career Record. It is only not made from the newest Career Record. SuperImpress never makes a new version on its own. If you want a new version, adjust the Selection by hand, or ask Autopilot or your agent.
These changes do not make a resume Behind:
- A change to a Company Brief.
- A change to a Kit’s Angle.
- An edit to a posting that you added yourself.
If you edit the advert on a posting that you added, the versions that you already made stay the same.
