Letters and messages
Each Application has a cover letter and an outreach message, beside its resume. On an Application, each one is a row: click “Add”, or click the row, to open it in place. Each Kit has them too. A letter or a message is plain text that you copy and send yourself. SuperImpress sends nothing.
Three ways to write
Section titled “Three ways to write”You can write a letter or a message in three ways:
- By hand: “Start from” opens the editor. This is free on both Plans.
- With Autopilot: on Pro, “Draft with Autopilot” writes the next version. For the price in Credits, see Plans.
- With your agent: once you connect your agent, “Ask your agent” shows beside the other two. Your agent saves a letter or a message for free.
Autopilot writes from your Career Record and what SuperImpress knows about the role. On a Posting from a Board, that is the Posting and the Company Brief. On a posting that you added yourself, that is the advert that you pasted. In a Kit, that is the Kit’s Angle and the company that you named.
All three ways need a saved Career Record.
Write by hand
Section titled “Write by hand”“Start from” gives you three choices: a Blank page, a Template, or the text of an earlier version. The earlier version can be yours, Autopilot’s, or your agent’s.
A Template is a fixed outline of a letter with prompts for you to answer. It fills in what SuperImpress already knows: the greeting, the role and its link, and your name at the end. The rest is prompts in brackets that you answer in your own words. An example prompt is “[Why this company: one specific thing from the Company Brief you care about. Two or three sentences.]”. A Template writes no sentence and no claim for you.
A Template knows less when the letter is not for a Posting from a Board:
- On a posting that you added, the Template fills in what you typed. If you gave no link, the Template leaves the link out.
- In a Kit, the kind of role is a prompt.
- In a Kit with no company, the greeting is a prompt too.
These are the Templates:
- Cover letters: Standard.
- Outreach: Standard. If you name a person, it greets them and asks how you know them. If you name no one, it greets the company and asks why you are writing.
To answer a prompt, click it and type. The Tab key moves to the next prompt. You cannot save while a prompt is still in the text. The editor counts the prompts that you did not answer yet, and “Go to the first” takes you to the first one. Answer each prompt, or delete it.
Autopilot and your agent never use Templates.
Look something up
Section titled “Look something up”Beside the editor, a panel shows what you can look up. On a phone, the panel is under “Look something up”. The tabs depend on what the letter is for:
- On a Posting from a Board: Career Record, Company Brief, and Posting.
- On a posting that you added: Career Record and Posting. There is no Company Brief.
- In a Kit: Career Record and Angle.
If a prompt names one of these tabs, the tab opens when you put the cursor in that prompt. The tabs are read-only. A click puts nothing into your letter. To copy a number exactly, select the text and copy it.
Outreach
Section titled “Outreach”“Who is it for?” is optional.
- If you type a name, you also type how you know them. The message is to that person. SuperImpress never suggests a contact.
- If you leave the name blank, the message is unaddressed: it is to no one by name, for a form or a recruiter inbox. If Autopilot writes an unaddressed message that greets a person by name, SuperImpress saves nothing and you spend no Credits.
An outreach message on an Application must include the link to the Posting. If the message has no link, you cannot save it. In a Kit, and on a posting that you added with no link, there is no link to include.
Versions and copying
Section titled “Versions and copying”SuperImpress never changes a letter in place. Each save makes a new version, and every version stays. Each version says “by you”, “by Autopilot”, or “by your agent”. You can copy any version, or start a new version from its text. A version is plain text. Each link is in parentheses after its text.
